Arriving Home!

After sitting in airports for way to many hours, I’m finally home! The kids never looked so good!

I had this whole plan of updating the blog every night while I was away, but as you can see that didn’t really work.

But so much exciting news to share! The photo shoot in Denver, Colorado was WONDERFUL! I’ll be posting Brittany and Greer’s images very soon!

WPPI in Vegas was also fantastic! So good to see lots of friends and meet many new ones! Speaking in the Pictage booth with David Jay was a blast, and the most surprising part was producers showing up and asking six of us to do an interview for a series on weddings that will air on HBO! They had already seen my website, read about my book, the blog…what an amazing surprise! I’ll fill in you on all details, like airing dates and times, as soon as I know!

I totally didn’t bring my little camera around the tradeshow, but so many of you got some fun photos. Could you email them to me? I’d love to post them on the blog!

On Monday I’m posting a fun exercise for moms on depth of field while painting Easter eggs! Check it out! :)

I know this is a blog, and we don’t get to interact a lot but I still have to say that I missed all of you! And it was so fun to meet so many of you at WPPI and hear that you follow the blog regularly! You all bless me more than I can express!

Tea for Four!

Six years ago, at 5:04am, Pascaline Josette was born at 10.1 lbs. and 20 inches long.

It doesn’t feel like six years has gone by.

I asked Pascaline what she wanted to do for her birthday this year; what type of party, what friends she wanted to invite, afterall, this year she gets to invite six friends for being six. She looked at me and said, “I don’t think I want a party this year. I just want to have tea at Queen Mary’s with you, grammie and gigi-ma (great grandma). And for my birthday dinner, I want it to be the four of us; you, me, dad and Blaze eating breakfast for dinner.”

Of course I did what every mom does–went through the roller coaster of emotions. Is she okay? Is she lonely and not making friends at school? Have I been working too much? Are we not having enough family time? Don’t six year olds want parties and lots of presents? (anyone relate? :) )

Her birthday wish for presents was new cowgirl boots and to graduate into a booster seat. “Really?” I asked.

I decided to let it go, and believe this is what Pascaline wanted. I underestimated Pascaline. Of course this is what she wanted!

She picked out my outfit for our tea party from my necklace to skirt to shoes (even tried to tell me what underwear to wear!). Her dress, shoes and white gloves were all layed out. She had us each take a purse, and she sent invitations to my mom and grandma asking them to where whatever they’d like, but to make sure it’s “geourgous“. I started to realize she wasn’t depressed at all, she actually had quite a clear vision of what this tea party was going to look like. :)

Over the last six years, Pascaline has changed so much. But one thing that is unchanging, her ability to completely surprise me when I least expect it. My life is so rich because of this little one!

Happy Birthday sweetie! love, mama

Are you laughing at the title? :)

Before you laugh to hard try to think back on all those times you’ve had your camera around your neck and feel like you’re going to scream because your strap is so rotten, uncomfortable. I get chills up and down when Brian brings home a new camera strap built for comfort. So I thought I’d point you to the secret place to get them. Some of our workshop attendees know and love this site, but I thought I’d post in case some of you haven’t heard of it.

The Camera Hunter is this great spot to shop for camera straps, filters, bags and all other types of accessories. You have to check it out! The OP/TECH category is where you find those luxury straps I’m talking about (and no worries, the price is pretty great!)

In fact, I talked with David Wombacher who is the husband of my amazing workshop coordinator Heather. And he said that if people want to purchase any thing during the month of March, he’ll give you a discount if you mention our blog.

Enjoy friends!!

Do you have a blog and wonder how you can increase your blog’s traffic? The other night we had the privilege of having Steve Makofsky come and speak to our PUG group on blogging. His website, www.furrygoat.com, gets 100,000 hits per week. Amazing!

Here’s a video with some of the highlights from the night. With four blogging tips, the rest are below!

A few other tips from Steve that have helped us!

#5 Make Categories! This way people can easily find a recent post or have their interest perked at going through your archives. This advice has totally paid off since I know a number of you check the “Photography Tips for Moms” category to find exercises and tips to try. Some of our blog visitors are brides and want to go straight to our Wedding Slideshows, or they want to know the latest on Fabulous weddings. All they have to do is click the VH1 category. Big time saver for your visitors!

#6 Good Titles! Google and other search engines specifically use the titles of our posts. So make sure you title your posts with key words to help those search engines find you.

#7 Link, Link, Link! I know it was said in the video, but it’s such a big deal for your Google rankings. Link to others and have them link to you. Hyperlink words within your blog. All these things get you higher on the totem pole when someone does a search.

#8 Do ads work? From Steve’s experience they don’t do much. He has ads on his archived posts only, and with the amount of traffic he gets, he still only gets a couple hundred a month from his ads. Definitely not something to quit your day job for. :)

First Sneak Peak at DVD!

What a crazy four days! On Friday we drove down to Portland to check out a scrapbooking conference that we’re thinking about speaking at in November. Let’s just say I’m in awe of all of you who scrapbook! The page layouts I saw were AMAZING! It was obvious to me that I am usually behind the camera and unaware of all the scrapbooking options out there! I even learned a new word! “Crops” Can I pay one of you to scrapbook my photos? :)

Saturday was our last mom’s workshop for this winter. It was the perfect day. Great group of women who all took amazing photos during the photoshoot! (I’ll post those later this week!) Lots of laughing and learning together! Brian and I loved every minute of it! What a wonderful group to end this series of workshops with!

Then we crashed on Sunday, and Monday Pascasline had the flu. You know this one, your up till 4am with her and the next morning she’s jumping off the bed while you’re dead to the world. :)

So here it is! Our first little sneak peak at the DVD series. Josh put together some fun clips of the footage he took of our kids. I’m so excited for Josh to be behind the editing of this DVD b/c his work is breath taking, and he’s already taking the quality of a DVD off the chart!

Hope you like it. It’s just a small sneak peak at our kids more then any thing else. Tell us what you think!

I’ve made a change to this post from earlier this week about the fundraiser happening in Vegas at the end of the month.

Little background: Forty plus photographers are donating their time to raise money for Thirst Relief. 100% of all proceeds will go to providing clean water to those in need. It’s crazy, but they say $5 can provide a lifetime of clean water to one person.

Some of you (moms in particular :) ) have emailed and asked if you can bid on our mentoring session, even though you’re not going to be in Vegas.

Why not! :)

I’m opening our auction up to our moms, readers, and clients. If you aren’t going to be in Vegas, then we can schedule a time when I’m back home. The more money raised for this relief effort the better! And this is another way to meet up if you didn’t make it into one of the workshops!

The winner will get lunch or dinner on me, and we’ll talk about whatever you want for our 90 minute mentor session. Whether you’re a beginner or professional photographer, bring as many questions as you can, and we’ll have a blast!

So to summarize to the existing post, the winner will get 2 copies of the new DVD series and a meal on me! :)

The auction ends tonight (Thursday) at 11:59pm, so don’t wait to long! And besides, Thirst Relief is such a great cause. You can’t go wrong!

Featured for March!

We’ve got exciting, overwhelming, take-my-breath-away type news!

This morning our studio went live as the featured photographer for the Pro Photo gallery on Microsoft’s website! When they called a couple weeks ago and invited us to be March’s feature, I was speechless. A few people had been passing our name to them unbenounced to us. One was Jeff Jochum, the VP at Pictage (thank you Jeff!) and another was one of the moms from our January workshop who also works at Microsoft, the others are still a mystery. :)

It’s an amazing honor to be invited to be among a group of nine other photographers that are a representation of the world’s best.

Denis Reggie is the only other wedding photographer featured. The rest of the photographers come from a background of nature, wildlife, celebrity portraits and editorial.

If you have time and want some image inspiration, check out their incredible galleries; breath taking photos by Art Wolfe, a documenter of tribal cultures, Phil Borges, and the mystical images of Joyce Tenneson. They say 100,000 plus visitors come every month to view the nine galleries. When you see the images you’ll know why.

I have to give a big thanks to all of you who visit this blog, attend our workshops, give us the honor to capture your wedding day or your baby’s first steps. I know without a doubt that your support and enthusiasm for us is why we are found by big guys like Microsoft. Thank you so much!
