Stunned By Their Mothering!

Me Ra Koh

The injured monkey has not come back to visit. And to put all our animal lovers at ease, we did notify the locals first thing. So they are keeping an eye out for him too.

But to our delight, we have FIVE mama monkeys in our backyard who swing through the trees every day with their babies holding on for dear life.

These mamas literally sit on the edges of branches, hundreds of feet in the air, and then jump, or better said FREE FALL, through the trees with their babies on their tummies. Then they huddle up and take turns throwing their babies to each other. The babies squeal, and I can’t tell if it’s a squeal of delight or sheer terror from looking down. But the best part, is the mamas catch the babies, plop them on their tummies and then pat their backs as if to burp the baby. Then they toss the baby to a different mama, and she does the same thing. When they’re ready to move to a new location, every mama grabs her own baby and they free fall all over again.

In the image below, you can see how light colored the babies are. They don’t even look real! If you look closely at the monkey above, you’ll see a baby in her lap too. 🙂

I can literally be peeing on the toilet, in our outdoor bathroom, and watch all this unfold in front of me.

It’s crazy if you think about it!

And to all our nursing moms, you’ll really love this one. Sometimes while the mamas are free falling with their babies, the babies are NURSING at the same time!! Can you imagine the clamp they’ve got? Ouch!
