Video on Shooting Silhouettes!

I gave our SOAR! Scholarship recipients another challenge–a BIG one.  Starting this month, they would rotate with one another on who was going to make their weekly blog post a video.  Video!!  You could hear them groan on the other side of the phone.  But alas, these ladies have taken on every challenge and are becoming AMAZING photographers and strong, confident business women with each passing month.

The September SOAR! Photography Assignment is all about  Shooting Silhouettes.  Linda Baylis was up to bat for making her video.  I know a lot of you saw this on the SOAR! blog and already commented how much you loved it, but in case you missed it…YOU CAN’T!  It’s so awesome!  (Linda, you rocked it!  I’m super, super proud of YOU!  And I laugh every time I watch this!)

Wasn’t that video awesome!  If you enjoyed it, let Linda know in today’s comments!

Why make these gals do videos?

Being a successful photographer isn’t just about understanding your camera, it’s being able to let people into your world so they can connect with you.  People are most often afraid of the camera, let alone someone pointing the camera at them.  They want to feel safe and connected to their photographer.  One of the best ways to do this is to let them see you in action.  The best way to become a successful photographer is to let people see who you are; your smile, your passion for shooting, your passion for life, the safe feeling you give.  It’s tough to be in front of the camera, but well worth it!

The Silhouette examples don’t stop with Linda.  Check out Lindsay’s post and Jennifer’s post.  All three of these ladies did an awesome job!  And yes, get ready to see more great videos from these gals as they approach their last quarter of the SOAR! Scholarship year.  In fact, watch Lindsay’s Business Coaching video.  That one is HILARIOUS and powerful!

What’s the SOAR! Scholarship?

It’s an annual scholarship that I started last year–a mission that is close to my heart and has amazing partners involved.   CLICK HERE to watch my video. Who knows…maybe you will be one of three soaring women for this upcoming year!  Scholarship will reopen for new submissions soon!  Stay tuned!  :) (Yep, we are doing the scholarship again ladies!  Woo-hoo!!)

Enjoy friends!

Me Ra, I am so honored (and a little bashful) to see my video featured on your blog today. Your continued support, belief and encouragement, amidst everything that is going on in your own life, has given me more than you can possibly imagine. Not only have you given me permission to dream… somewhere along the way you have given me the faith to believe that those dreams are attainable. You my friend have a gift and we are all privileged that you chose to share it with us. It’s my personal mission to continue to make you proud!!!

I am so excited to hear that the SOAR! Scholarship is reopening soon and encourage all of you ladies out there to seriously consider it. It has changed my life in powerful and unexpected ways. More about that to come…

  3. Dawn Beirnes says:

I love this video! I am wanting to do some shots at my grandsons football practice with them on the field and the stadium ights (at night) behind them. This gave me some good ideas! Great job, Linda!

  4. Rhonda says:

  7. Addie says:

So much fun to watch!! Loved the video, loved the pictures! They turned out beautifully. And I love how you showed the “what really went down” at the end of the video. I cannot imagine putting myself on a video, let alone a video that gets released to the world! You, Lindsay & Jennifer are the bravest souls to do this. And I am one of the many who are so glad that you do. It helps those of us who are somewhere on the path to see (and hear ;-) your journey. Thank you so much for sharing.

  8. Delanae says:

Linda, you are a natural in front of the camera and your fun lighthearted personality certainly shines through. Great job.

What I really loved most was your accent! Oh my! Do your children realize how lucky they are to have their bedtime stories read by you! Wow! :)

  9. Sandy says:

yes you did rock it! loved it!!

  10. Carey says:

cool!!! Canon cameras do NOT focus easily with sun shining right into the lens. I’m a wee bit jealous of the Sony shooters in that regard!!

  11. Linda says:

Thank you all so much… your feedback and support throughout this incredible journey is such a wonderful bonus! Can’t wait to see who will be next…

  12. Linda says:

@Carey – I was really worried about this since I didn’t even have a lens hood, and as you saw there was no shade. My Sony performed better than my eyes – I couldn’t focus properly until the next day!

  13. Cyndi says:

Nice results! Can you share what settings you used to create these beautiful silhouettes?

  14. Kirsten says:

Linda – That was awesome! I was so impressed with the images. And the outtakes were just hysterical! Thanks for sharing this! :)

  15. Linda says:

Cyndi – my settings were ISO 100, f/5.6, 1/4000 and I was using the 18-55mm kit lens :)

  16. Kathy Winter says:

Loved the video and the images!

  17. Me Ra says:

Linda, you are a star! Soak all these comments in…you so deserve them. xoxo

  18. Hilarious video and beautiful shots. Thanks so much for sharing!!! I loved the music in the beginning too!! LOL!!!
