I’m thinking back to this amazing weekend we had in Seattle with our CONFIDENCE Workshop. Brian and I had returned a week prior from almost a month in Egypt. And I was hungry for being in the company of women–creating, laughing, crying, and laughing even more. This workshop couldn’t have happened at a more perfect time. Women flew in from all over the country to take this workshop; Kentucky, New York, Texas, California, Oregon, Ohio…am I leaving a state out?! And we had a powerful time!
Take a look at what happened on Day One. This is the day we bring in the mamas and the babies for a photo shoot that gets us hands on with shooting indoors, working with window light, finessing our lighting, and putting some story telling practices to test.
I want the workshop ladies (and all of you) to be able to see the photo I was setting up. The way I have the mama set up is one of my favorite photo recipes from Your Baby in Pictures for getting a beautiful, flattering, curvy photo of mom and baby.
I LOVE this little guy, but I loved him EVEN MORE without clothes on! Check out his rolls!!
The women had a blast with this little charmer!
Rebecca lives only a couple blocks from me, and I had no idea! She has such a beautiful eye for capturing emotion. Look at this expression she caught! How can anyone not go crazy over a face like this!?!
Lisa from Oregon captured this mischevious moment. Lisa, I LOVE how you blurred the restaurant behind mom and baby. Those lights turned to such great circles of color and add this magic to the overall moment! Great job girl!
Can’t you just feel the fun energy coming off these women as they create!
There is something so powerful when women come together. We can bring out the best in each other, and joy abounds. I LOVE all the laughter that was happening during the baby shoot. Women just having fun, being silly, and creating BEAUTIFUL photos while they were at it. Look at what a great time mom is having too! Wait till you see the BEAUTY captured!
I LOVE these next two photos that Leah Robbins captured! There is something so quiet, so soft and inviting about each of them.
Leah gets in a little closer, and wow! I got the sweetest note from Leah telling me that since the CONFIDENCE workshop she has been shooting in Manual and hasn’t looked back!
Look at what Jill Ann from Texas captured. Same mom and baby, but don’t you love how different we each see the world, and how this unending diverse beauty comes through every photo we take? I’m in awe. Stunning Jill Ann!
Cheryl and Tonya, our two Seattle/Tacoma CONFIDENCE Teachers came by to help with the live photo shoots. Here is Cheryl going for it! She is so wonderful with so much to empower and teach! Check out the photos she helped her group set up!
Lisa Ward captured this priceless moment. Look at baby’s eyes and her little hand pressed against mom’s shoulder. Lisa, this is such a GORGEOUS photo.
Janna King (also from Texas) captured this adorable expression. Don’t you love how many facial expressions babies have?! One minute she is tucked into mama’s shoulder, and the next minute she is talking to you. Janna, I LOVE how soft mom is in the background. Her warm presence is so clear, so powerful.
We go from being curious to talkative–in a matter of moments. Carrie Krueger from Ohio captured this energetic moment. I love how Carrie got in tight with mom and baby so there isn’t any thing distracting in the background–after all, this photo shoot is happening in a hotel restaurant! But I also love how she added a little camera tilt to make the energy feel that much more real in the photo!
A fun behind-the-scenes photo of all the women in action! You would never guess how different their photos were going to be!
Whenever one of our mama’s is a former CONFIDENCE Grad, I LOVE to try and get a few shots myself. These two are super special to me, and it was such a gift to have them come model for us. This is one of my favorites. I love to allow mom become super soft (by using a low f-stop) because I feel her love and presence so much more verses her being in focus with baby.
Jenny is another CONFIDENCE Grad, and she only lives a few blocks from me! She is pure sunshine! When I saw the sun shining through the windows, I asked her if I could grab a quick photo with the sun on her face and hair. I just loved how it illuminated her.
This is one that Brian shot when she wasn’t looking.
This is our first baby in today’s post, but I wanted you to see a different perspective for a wide angle point of view, window shot by Leah.
Look at what Erica from New York captured. Take MY BREATH AWAY! GORGEOUS! Many of us are afraid of shooting indoors and using window light, but once we are empowered to take it on–once we know the technical steps to set it up–the magical results are incomparable to any thing else! Erica…GORGEOUS!
And then we had this little peanut who was only a few weeks old!
She is PRECIOUS! One of the first things that struck me about mom’s physical features was her beautiful long hair. I wanted to set up a photo that captured this feminine detail in such a way that added to mom’s gentle spirit and overall nature. That is why I had her look at baby. This way her had could fall forward, and we would be drawn to her beautiful eye lashes and gorgeous hair. (Not to mention her sweet baby girl too! )
Behind-the-scenes shot of the small group working with her after my demonstration.
Look at what Chandra (from Seattle) captured! I love how baby is tucked in to mom’s chest, fast asleep, and just how feminine–beautiful–this moment is. WONDERFUL job Chandra!
We also got grandma to join in, and look at what Chandra caught of the three generations! Great story behind this that I’ll tell you later.
Will you help me in congratulating the most recent Seattle CONFIDENCE Workshop ladies on such an awesome job? They flew in from all over the country, invested their time and money, to replenish their creative spirit–to get uncomfortable–work through some of their mental barriers–and just sink into two days of learning, growing and laughing. I have such respect for women who take care of themselves. If we don’t, how can we take care of the many we care for every day. Ladies, it was a HONOR to be with you. It’s been wonderful seeing you grow in your photography on the FB page. You all make the world a more beautiful place by sharing your creative voice, your eye.
Huge thank you to all our models. You are all such a gift–to me, to your families, and especially our teachers. Thank you so much for letting us practice on you and your sweet babies! I LOVE that some of you already have canvases on your walls from what was captured by our students. How awesome is that?!!
