Today I have a myriad of beautiful, fun family photo ideas to inspire you from our workshop attendees who came from all over the country.

I couldn’t resist.  I had to start Day Two’s Recap with this photo!  Remember when I was teaching about how to not blow out the detail in blonde hair (with Carrie as my beautiful example) or men with bald heads?  Look at how serious I am.  You better have been listening ladies!  :)

0036-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Much better Behind-the-Scenes photo!

0035-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

For those of you who have never been to our 2 Day CONFIDENCE Workshop, Day Two is all about shooting in Manual and working with your meter to do just that.

Since it started to rain, I decided to up the challenge and had the ladies use this BIG, YELLOW space for part of the family shoot.  I wanted to see how much they were getting the Manual settings.

0056-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Yep, yellow walls.  Are there family photos ideas to be found in this setting?  Not to mention the interesting carpet design to work with too.

This is the way I see teaching.  If you come to a CONFIDENCE workshop, whether I’m teaching it or one of my teachers are, and the shoot has perfect lighting, perfect setting, and all you have to do is click the button…what have you learned?  What confidence have you gained for when you go home and the walls or lights are too yellow.  The carpet design is distracting.  The windows are even overbearing with all the framing.  What have you learned?  How are you empowered?  This is what I try to make sure we put our attendees in front of real challenges.  There is no other way to break through glass ceilings.

0057-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

But, when you know how to adjust your camera settings, and you are not limited to the camera’s Auto mode any longer, you would be AMAZED at what you can capture in the most unlikely settings!  And when you see the following photo results (and you are a part of those results!!), you know that know setting is to difficult for a family photo idea to happen!

I have to tell you that in the last ten years of talking photos of children, THIS PHOTO–in the most unlikely setting–has to be one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!  Meet Captain America!  :)

0050-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Chandra was right in the moment while this little guy played horsey with his dad.  I LOVE the energy, the SMILE, on this little guy’s face!  Chandra…girl!!!.. You took such a GREAT shot!

chandrasandovalphotography-17

To show a different perspective of the same moment, I got back a little and took the wider version.  So fun, and who would guess with the setting we had!

0053-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Sara Ward knocked it OUT OF THE PARK with this AWESOME family portrait! Look at all the different things that are happening at once.  And folks, you know the setting Sara had to work with!  Way to go SARA!!!!

Ward-17

Leah Robbins proves how this unlikely indoor space is actually the PERFECT setting for a Father-Son portrait.  Work your magic GIRL!!!!

leahrobbinsphoto-30

Eventually we moved outside.

0061-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

The ladies readjusted our camera settings for the change in light.  And POW!!!  Jill Ann from Texas nailed it!  Look at this beautiful moment.  The look on his face is priceless!!!  You go girl!!!

Jill Ann_day 2

The dad was pulling out all the stops to keep this little guy engaged.  But there was a split second when they both paused, and I got down low and shot up at them.  Had to share!

0064-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

I think we all LOVED watching Erica from NY work with this little guy.

0067-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

And I have to share this photo.  It’s kind of an inside joke, but I it’s still fantastic!  Erica, you went all out for this moment! :)

erica loewenguth_stick

Carrie from Ohio was having the BEST time withe this adorable family!  And how can you not love a dad who is such a GREAT sport!  I love the energy, camera tilt, fun angle, ALL OF IT, on this photo Carrie!

CKruegerKapturePhotography (18 of 19)

I LOVE how Janna from TX incorporated this beautiful woodwork into a family portrait of this former CONFIDENCE Grad.  The vertical energy of that woodwork adds so much more the emotion on that little girl’s face.  Sometimes background can be a distraction, but look at how Janna lined it up purposefully.  Wonderful Janna!

Janna King_family

I LOVE how tight the framing is on mom and dad for this photo.  Gorgeous of mom!!!  (also a former CONFIDENCE Grad which makes it even more fun to see how her family is growing!)  Great job again Chandra!

chandrasandovalphotography-200

I can’t express enough how PROUD I am of our Seattle CONFIDENCE attendees!  They did AWESOME with every challenge Brian and I gave them.  As you can see from their results, they rocked it!

Congrats ladies!  You continue to grow, inspire and capture beauty!  Brian and I are so proud to be a part of your journey!

Jen here with another First Year post!

When Logan was born, she had such beautiful, thick dark brown hair, but during the first few months, much of it fell out.  Her hair thinning revealed the sweetest little swirl spot near the top of her head.  Now that her hair is quickly growing back in, I knew that I had to photograph it before it was gone!

Jennifer Tacbas - hair swirl 1

Enter Me Ra’s photo recipe called “The Unforgettable Baby Detail” from her book, Your Baby in Pictures!  Here are the details of what I did to follow her recipe…

Prep

First and foremost, I made sure Logan was fed and changed – two things that make her happy and give me a good start to our shoot!  Next, I placed Logan on the floor in her favorite chair that has a low back, so that I would have an unobstructed view of the back of her head and shoulders.  I turned her chair around so her hair swirl was facing the window and was lit up by the natural light.  Then I positioned myself with my back facing the window.

Camera Settings

My DSLR’s built-in flash is always off, but I double checked it, just to be sure.  I selected Aperture Priority mode and used the low aperture of 1.8/f so that the background in the photo would be blurred, bringing attention to her hair swirl.  Since her nursery was a little dark due to a cloudy day, I had to bump up my ISO to 800.

Compose

Since I wasn’t looking to compose a super tight shot of Logan’s hair swirl, Me Ra had a great photo tip – she said to pay attention to what was being included in the background of my shot and to keep it uncluttered, which would help keep the focus on the back of Logan’s head.

Capture

I simply focused on Logan’s hair swirl, locked in the focus and recomposed the shot to create the image I wanted.

Here is the result.  So cute!

Jennifer Tacbas - hair swirl 2

Once I got a good shot using the photo recipe, I started to play around a little bit.  I turned Logan in the chair so that the left side of her was toward the window.  I positioned myself behind and slightly above Logan, looking down on the back of her head at a little bit of an angle.

Jennifer Tacbas - hair swirl 3

The last shot I tried was turning Logan so that she was facing the window.  I just LOVE how this one turned out.  The rays of sun filtering through the window give her a beautiful glow.  Just goes to show you how different images can look with a change in position of you and your subject in relation to a natural light source!  And could her little ear and cute little neck roll be any more adorable?  They are two of my other favorite details!

Jennifer Tacbas - hair swirl 4

Now it’s your turn to try out this recipe with your little one to highlight your favorite detail about your baby.  Me Ra and I would love to see what you capture – please share with us your favorite image on her Facebook page!

Meet me here next Monday when I give you a little insight on how I manage to take care of a very active baby while getting some work done.

First Year Cheers!

Jen

I’m thinking back to this amazing weekend we had in Seattle with our CONFIDENCE Workshop.  Brian and I had returned a week prior from almost a month in Egypt.  And I was hungry for being in the company of women–creating, laughing, crying, and laughing even more.  This workshop couldn’t have happened at a more perfect time.  Women flew in from all over the country to take this workshop; Kentucky, New York, Texas, California, Oregon, Ohio…am I leaving a state out?!  And we had a powerful time!

Take a look at what happened on Day One.  This is the day we bring in the mamas and the babies for a photo shoot that gets us hands on with shooting indoors, working with window light, finessing our lighting, and putting some story telling practices to test.

0100-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

I want the workshop ladies (and all of you) to be able to see the photo I was setting up.  The way I have the mama set up is one of my favorite photo recipes from Your Baby in Pictures for getting a beautiful, flattering, curvy photo of mom and baby.

0009-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

I LOVE this little guy, but I loved him EVEN MORE without clothes on!  Check out his rolls!!

0020-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

The women had a blast with this little charmer!

0017-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Rebecca lives only a couple blocks from me, and I had no idea!  She has such a beautiful eye for capturing emotion.  Look at this expression she caught!  How can anyone not go crazy over a face like this!?!

rebeccajrosenphotography11

Lisa from Oregon captured this mischevious moment.  Lisa, I LOVE how you blurred the restaurant behind mom and baby.  Those lights turned to such great circles of color and add this magic to the overall moment!  Great job girl!

LisaGalagate6

Can’t you just feel the fun energy coming off these women as they create!

0106-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

There is something so powerful when women come together.  We can bring out the best in each other, and joy abounds.  I LOVE all the laughter that was happening during the baby shoot.  Women just having fun, being silly, and creating BEAUTIFUL photos while they were at it.  Look at what a great time mom is having too!  Wait till you see the BEAUTY captured!

0108-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

I LOVE these next two photos that Leah Robbins captured!  There is something so quiet, so soft and inviting about each of them.

leahrobbinsphoto-03

Leah gets in a little closer, and wow!  I got the sweetest note from Leah telling me that since the CONFIDENCE workshop she has been shooting in Manual and hasn’t looked back!

leahrobbinsphoto-05

Look at what Jill Ann from Texas captured.  Same mom and baby, but don’t you love how different we each see the world, and how this unending diverse beauty comes through every photo we take? I’m in awe.  Stunning Jill Ann!

Jill Ann_day 1

Cheryl and Tonya, our two Seattle/Tacoma CONFIDENCE Teachers came by to help with the live photo shoots.  Here is Cheryl going for it!  She is so wonderful with so much to empower and teach!  Check out the photos she helped her group set up!

0111-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Lisa Ward captured this priceless moment.  Look at baby’s eyes and her little hand pressed against mom’s shoulder.  Lisa, this is such a GORGEOUS photo.

Ward-31-2

Janna King (also from Texas) captured this adorable expression.  Don’t you love how many facial expressions babies have?!  One minute she is tucked into mama’s shoulder, and the next minute she is talking to you.  Janna, I LOVE how soft mom is in the background.  Her warm presence is so clear, so powerful.

Janna King_baby

We go from being curious to talkative–in a matter of moments.  Carrie Krueger from Ohio captured this energetic moment.  I love how Carrie got in tight with mom and baby so there isn’t any thing distracting in the background–after all, this photo shoot is happening in a hotel restaurant!  But I also love how she added a little camera tilt to make the energy feel that much more real in the photo!

CKruegerKapturePhotography (41 of 22)

A fun behind-the-scenes photo of all the women in action!  You would never guess how different their photos were going to be!

0112-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Whenever one of our mama’s is a former CONFIDENCE Grad, I LOVE to try and get a few shots myself.  These two are super special to me, and it was such a gift to have them come model for us.  This is one of my favorites.  I love to allow mom become super soft (by using a low f-stop) because I feel her love and presence so much more verses her being in focus with baby.

0124-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Jenny is another CONFIDENCE Grad, and she only lives a few blocks from me!  She is pure sunshine!  When I saw the sun shining through the windows, I asked her if I could grab a quick photo with the sun on her face and hair.  I just loved how it illuminated her.

0118-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

This is one that Brian shot when she wasn’t looking.  :)

0015-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

This is our first baby in today’s post, but I wanted you to see a different perspective for a wide angle point of view, window shot by Leah.

leahrobbinsphoto-12

Look at what Erica from New York captured.  Take MY BREATH AWAY!  GORGEOUS!  Many of us are afraid of shooting indoors and using window light, but once we are empowered to take it on–once we know the technical steps to set it up–the magical results are incomparable to any thing else!  Erica…GORGEOUS!

erica loewenguth_jenny

And then we had this little peanut who was only a few weeks old!

0004-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

She is PRECIOUS!  One of the first things that struck me about mom’s physical features was her beautiful long hair.  I wanted to set up a photo that captured this feminine detail in such a way that added to mom’s gentle spirit and overall nature.  That is why I had her look at baby.  This way her had could fall forward, and we would be drawn to her beautiful eye lashes and gorgeous hair.  (Not to mention her sweet baby girl too! :) )

0013-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Behind-the-scenes shot of the small group working with her after my demonstration.

0104-Seattle_CONFIDENCE2_2013

Look at what Chandra (from Seattle) captured!  I love how baby is tucked in to mom’s chest, fast asleep, and just how feminine–beautiful–this moment is.  WONDERFUL job Chandra!

chandrasandovalphotography-10

We also got grandma to join in, and look at what Chandra caught of the three generations!  Great story behind this that I’ll tell you later.

chandrasandovalphotography-13

Will you help me in congratulating the most recent Seattle CONFIDENCE Workshop ladies on such an awesome job?  They flew in from all over the country, invested their time and money, to replenish their creative spirit–to get uncomfortable–work through some of their mental barriers–and just sink into two days of learning, growing and laughing.  I have such respect for women who take care of themselves.  If we don’t, how can we take care of the many we care for every day.  Ladies, it was a HONOR to be with you.  It’s been wonderful seeing you grow in your photography on the FB page.  You all make the world a more beautiful place by sharing your creative voice, your eye.

Huge thank you to all our models.  You are all such a gift–to me, to your families, and especially our teachers.  Thank you so much for letting us practice on you and your sweet babies!  I LOVE that some of you already have canvases on your walls from what was captured by our students.  How awesome is that?!!

xo,

m

I am THRILLED that so many of you LOVED the post; 24 Tips for Taking the Best Mother’s Day Photo EVER!

What do you say we give dad a turn for Father’s Day?!

Dad.  Appa.  Babba.  Papa.  Bappo.  Pai.   I love how every language has their own word for Dad.  But no matter how many ways there are to say it, all dad’s possess the same super powers.

They have the ability to call out our greatness like no one else.

They give us a sense of identity when they wrap their arm around us and say “You belong.”

And when dad believes you can do something, you are inspired to believe it too.

The degree of influence that dads hold in our lives is so intense that we either spend our lives trying to heal from it or spread our wings and fly with it.  I’ve gone through much in my life, but my most intense journey of all has been the relationship with my Korean ahba.  He and I have worked for years to find healing with each other, and I count our relationship as one of the most precious gifts in my life.  I am so thankful we never gave up on each other.

As I watch Brian with our kids, I know they see dad’s imperfections.  They are moved with how quick he is to ask them for forgiveness when he is at fault.  And he calls them to a greater place of challenge than anyone else.  But he is also the first to embrace them in weakness.  I see all these dynamics, and it is no wonder that the kids long to shadow him–reflect him.

0100-Fathers Day Photo Tips

Becoming a dad must be one of the scariest and most exhilarating commitments a man ever makes in life.  For Father’s Day, I want to honor all the dad’s who renew that commitment every day, who strive to not cut corners, who look their kids in the eye and see them, and work harder than anyone will ever know.  Their road is often lonely.  Their burden can be overwhelming.  But they still choose to push forward.  And for all of us who have experienced the kind of dad who hasn’t given up…well, I would bet that we could all testify that dad’s perseverance has made all the difference.

With the returning help of my dear friend, Sarah Wilkerson — the fearless and beautiful CEO of Clickin Moms, (if you haven’t checked out the wealth of photo inspiration at Clickin Moms, you must) — and my awesome photography team of CONFIDENCE teachers around the country, who gave you 24 Tips to Taking the Best Mother’s Day Photo EVER…we are all back to to empower and inspire you with 24 different photo tips to capturing a rocking, awesome photo of DAD!

Jen here with a special First Year post written for one extraordinary person.

*  *  *

On January 5th of this year, so many incredible transformations took place before my eyes.  After about an hour of your amazing coaching and cheering me on, the doctor and nurses introduced us to the sweetest little baby we had been waiting so long to meet – our daughter.  And in that very moment, we were forever changed.  I became a mother, you became a father…a new journey began.

fathers-day-1

Those next two days in the hospital were simply magical.  I loved holding our daughter, just looking at her, nursing her, and getting to know her.  But I secretly was also watching you.  I loved the little smile that warmed your face as our baby wrapped her tiny hand around your ring finger.  I loved watching you master how to swaddle our girl into a cute little burrito, something only you could do!  I loved watching the excitement on your face as you chatted with your family over the phone, already bragging about your little girl.  Whether she was awake or asleep, I watched you watch over her every breath, sigh, hiccup and yawn.  I saw so much love wash quietly over you, and just as I fell in love with our girl over and over again, I also fell repeatedly in love with you.

The hospital sent us home, and we were on our own with this new thing called parenthood!  During those first few weeks, you took such good care of your new little family – you cooked us three healthy, delicious meals a day.  You made sure I got my rest.  You cleaned the house often, and showed time and time again in so many ways how much you wanted only the best for your girls.  You gave our family the perfect start to our new life together.

fathers-day-2

Over the next 5 months, we watched our little baby grow all too quickly into a beautiful little girl with an already big personality.  We cheered her on as she discovered so many things before our eyes, like how to grasp something with her hand or how to roll over.  We shared so many babble conversations with her, excitedly trying to match her sounds and tones.  We took many-a turn rocking, bouncing, or dancing her to sleep to her favorite Maroon 5 music video, sometimes needing to switch often to give our arms a break.  (I still don’t know why she picked that song to like, but who cares – it works when we need it!) We melted with her first smile, her first giggle, her first belly laugh.  We laughed together over her vibrant facial expressions, many of which we captured with our cameras.  And we shared hearty laughs and sentimental tears during the times we went back through our images and took a bittersweet trip down memory lane.

fathers-day-3

During our trips down memory lane and often throughout every day, I thank my lucky stars for you, Jason.  I am so grateful to have such an amazing husband at my side through this incredible journey, and I am even more grateful that Logan has you for a father.  I look at you, Jason, and I see how deeply you love our daughter and me, I see how much you sacrifice to give our family the best, and I appreciate all that you do and all that you are.

I know it’s a few days early, but happy 1st Father’s Day, Jason!  You are the best daddy, and Logan and I love you so very, very much.  xo

fathers-day-4

Friends, I look forward to meeting you here next Monday when I test out Me Ra’s photo recipe for capturing a few of Logan’s unforgettable details!

First Year Cheers!

From the back cover;

“In this world of over-communication, social networks and the blurry line between friend and stranger, clients are more than ready to buy your why and who, long before they buy what you do or even how you do it.” -Jeff Jochum

0001-Jeff Jochum_book cover

Simply put…my business wouldn’t know how to fly without Jeff Jochum.  Better said… I wouldn’t know how to fly without Jeff.

Since 2004, Jeff has been an incredible mentor, whether it’s over our phone calls or him building me up in the green room before I stand in front of two million viewers.  Every time we have a conversation, I simply can’t take notes fast enough.  He doesn’t mince words and isn’t afraid to challenge me.  He has loved my family and me….How do you repay someone who has given so much?

When Jeff called to see if I would take a look at his book and consider writing his Foreword, I had a small way to give back to him.  What started with the Foreword evolved into me flying to his home in Denver and going through every page of this book.  Working on this book has been an honor, and I am crazy proud of it!

In this book, you will discover the eleven principles that Jeff has taught me over the years.  I’ve often wanted to write down the lessons, his bold statements that have shifted my perspective, the anecdotal stories that help me understand business better than any class…This book holds all of that!

If you are small business owner, especially a photographer, this is the book that I’ve always wanted you to have.  This is not a self-help book or a list of quick steps to finding your specialty.  This book will challenge your thinking, and you will find yourself coming back to it over and over again.  At times, this book will make you uncomfortable; push your limits, and even beliefs.  In the end, this book will invite you to look closely at what makes you special.  I think this is the scariest question of all, touching on all our fears of not being special enough.

Are you willing to risk finding the answer for yourself?  People can tell you all day long that you are special, that you are enough, but do you believe it?

Do you believe it is possible for you to Work Happily Ever-After?

I’m prepping to send my CONFIDENCE teachers their own box of inspirational summer reading.  This book will be in there.  To add it to your summer reading list; purchase Work Happily Ever-After here!

(Yay Jeff!  It is AVAILABLE!!)

Can’t wait to hear what you ALL think!

Pop quiz!

What are the three essential storytelling elements that you’ve heard me talk about for years?

If you guessed; Setting, Defining Details and Conflict…you win!

I love how photography can offer us endless things to learn.  But I LOVE EVEN MORE how the basics never grow old.

Whether I’m in Egypt photographing the kids, doing a photo shoot or filming a new episode for Disney Junior’s Capture Your Story, my creative process is always looking for these three elements.

Over the weekend, our little family did some Spring gardening and weeding.  Click here to see how I weaved the three basic storytelling elements into a simple (but FUN!) photo story of us gardening together.

This is one of my favorite moments; Pascaline hauling away the pruned pear tree limbs.  There were so many, you couldn’t even see her head.  :)

There is much change in the air right now with school getting out and summer schedules starting up.  Change can often feel overwhelming.  Take some time to let your creative spirit exhale this week by picking a single story that you can tell with your smartphone using the three basic elements of storytelling.  I’d love to see them on FB if you want to share them with me!

Yay!!! I’m so excited for tomorrow!  It’s the launch of our popular online class How to Capture Magical Light!  Our Full Registration spots are SOLD OUT, but we do have 1 or 2 Shadow spots left if you want to come along!  (register by midnight tonight!)

Around 11am tomorrow, our students will get their first video and written lesson with the week’s photo exercise.  Get ready ladies!  Your creative spirit is going to be stretched, inspired and refreshed!  When you see that beautiful, golden light appear–you will be empowered with knowing how to capture it!

The ranch in TX was one of my recent moments of having fun with magical light.  The sun was starting to set and cast this beautiful glow on Brian and Blaze’s faces as they cast their fishing line.  Since they are facing the setting sun, the front of their body is illuminated.  But see how the backside of their body is in shadow?  Another great tip for slimming your subject!

When I moved in closer and got the sun behind them, look at what happened?  See how the sun flare and even sun rays came into the photo?  That happens when you are shooting right into the sun.  We are going to learn all about how this works starting tomorrow!

Teaching this online class was one of my favorite parts of last summer!  I LOVE watching how the transformation happens in each student, as she becomes more aware of light and how to capture the magic in light.  Insecurity is replaced with confidence with each week’s lesson and exercise!  Our awesome critique team is pointing out what you are doing well, what consistencies they see in your eye, and how to take your photos to the next level by changing a camera setting, your position to the light or even a fun idea that helps you get out of the box!  You can bet that I’ll be sharing some great Before and After results with all of you as we go, so stay tuned!

If your schedule didn’t allow for the online class this summer, and you are wanting to master your camera more, I encourage you to get our downloadable DVD, Beyond the Green Box.  It’s an award winning, instructional DVD of me and Brian walking you through Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, back lighting and more!  Once you go through this DVD, you’ll be set for taking the online class with us the next time!

To Our Online Students:

Counting the hours!  You should have all received two emails from Brian with directions on how to get set up for the class.  One email had the directions, the other was sent to you Sunday night to confirm that you received the first.  If for some reason you haven’t, or you need any help with getting set up for tomorrow, email brian_at_merakoh.com asap!  Thanks!!!  See you tomorrow!  Lessons/Email coming by 11am PST!

Jen here a First Year post about Veggies and Baby!

Who’s excited to try today’s new vegetable?  LOGAN!

Carrots1

At her four-month checkup, Logan’s physician gave her the thumbs up to begin eating pureed vegetables.  I am so excited about it – it is so fun to introduce Logan to new things!  I love when she takes in that first spoonful of a vegetable she’s never had.  She rolls the food around in her mouth and gets this inquisitive look on her face as if she’s trying to name that vegetable.  So far, the first swallow of every new food has been followed by a big gummy grin.  Hooray for a healthy little eater!

Sweet potatoes, green beans, sweet peas, butternut squash…Logan’s given them all her smile of approval.  And today, she’s going to try her last new veggie for the month of May – mixed carrots!  I sat her in her favorite chair, put on a bib, and it was time to begin the taste test!

Carrots2

I squirted a little organic carrot puree onto the spoon and looked up at Logan, who already had her mouth open!  HA!  No airplane sound effects necessary with the feeding of this first spoonful of carrots!  Logan was quick to approve this new veggie – her face lit up, and she gave me the sweetest orange grin you ever did see.

The first several spoonfuls were actually quite tidy – she kept most of the carrots in her mouth – but that didn’t last for long.  Logan decided that mealtime should be accompanied by some music, which she was happy to provide.  She began sing-talking in a variety of tones, and when she hit her newly acquired soprano notes, carrots shot out of her mouth!  I got her cleaned up and fed her another spoonful of carrots…just in time for a few sneezes!  Carrots were now sprayed all over her, the table and me!  I just looked at her in disbelief.  There was a quiet pause where we stared at each other for a moment, and then Logan giggled.  I’m so glad she thought this was entertaining!  I laughed, too.  I got us cleaned up again, and soon after, my little teething baby decided it was time to eat some fingers!  Oh, how our mealtime had evolved into an orange mess!

Carrots3

I love feeding Logan organic vegetables – it makes me happy to know that I am giving my little girl the best quality foods.  While I am currently buying ready-made organic veggie purees, I am looking forward to pureeing my own organic veggies soon!

Introducing Logan to vegetables has actually inspired my husband and I to make healthier food choices.  We agree that one of the best gifts we can give Logan is two healthy parents.  By choosing to eat healthier, we will also be setting good examples for Logan as she grows up.  As far as I’m concerned, as long as she makes healthy choices, she can make all the mess she wants.

Carrots4

Do you have any funny baby’s first food stories about your little one…or perhaps about yourself?  I’d love for you to share them in the comments section below.  My mom said my baby book reveals that 34 years ago, my pediatrician had me eating veggies, fruits and strained meats by the time I was only several weeks old!  My, how times have changed!

Meet me here next Monday for a special post written for one of Logan’s favorite people in the whole wide world!  You’ll  have to come back next week to find out who it is!

First Year Cheers!

Jen

As many of you know, every week Brian and I mentor and train a select group of nationwide CONFIDENCE Teachers.  Bringing on a teaching program has been one of the most challenging and rewarding steps we have every made with our brand. None of us knew what we were really getting ourselves into, and that has made it all that much more special!

In fact, we held our first training last August.  I can’t believe it’s almost been a year!  We have learned SO MUCH from these ladies–and together we are pioneering a new road with the commitment to empower moms.

Jess, our southern CA teacher, recently made a workshop video for her website so women could see why she is so passionate about teaching moms how to use their camera.  I had to share it with you because this video represents the whole program–every one of our teachers–and I’m incredibly proud to work alongside them.

For all the moms who love capturing your kids, don’t you just love her video?

Just to take another second to celebrate Jess (especially for all the work she put into this video), I have to tell you what her workshops students have told us;

“This workshop was such a wonderful way to take a step back from the chaos of life, enjoy some time with inspirational people, gain the confidence to capture those small amazing moments we sometimes forget exist among the chatter, and walk away feeling ready to take on a new journey. I hope more and more women will take the opportunity to do the same!”  -Dana, Southern California

“Loved every minute of it Jess!!! I learned more than I imagined I could! You have a gift…thanks for sharing it. I’m so excited to put what I learned into practice. You and Steve did an AMAZING job today!!”  -Sherry, Southern California

If you are in southern CA, be sure to check out the dates for Jess’s summer CONFIDENCE workshop.  You can learn more about her (like how she was featured in People magazine!) and see more of her work.

If you live somewhere else in the US, we have beautiful teachers in many of the major cities.  Find a teacher near you, and decide to tackle your camera once and for all this summer!  :)

Thank you Jess for this powerful, awesome video!

Love YOU!
