Overcoming Fear

Jealousy is a Trap and Map

Me Ra Koh

As I work on a special blog post for tomorrow (Post #1000!!!), I thought I’d share my morning reading with you from Julia Cameron, author of The Artist’s Way, explain how jealousy is a trap but also a map.  Today’s passage is the perfect dose of vitamins for creative nourishment!

“Jealousy is a map.  Each of our jealousy maps differs.  Each of us will probably be surprised by some of the things we discover on our own.  Jealousy is always a mask for fear:  fear that we aren’t able to get what we want;  frustration that somebody else seems to be getting what is rightfully ours even if we are too frightened to reach for it.  At its root, jealous is a stingy emotion.  It doesn’t allow for the abundance and multiplicity of the universe.  Jealousy tells us there is room for only one–one poet, one painter, (one photographer), one whatever you dream of being.  The truth, revealed by action in the direction of our dreams, is that there is room for all of us.”

The last sentence got me.

“The truth, revealed by action in the direction of our dreams…”.

Jealousy is a trap. We all know it. To get out from under jealousy, to be able to breathe deeply and feel your creative self expand, action in the direction of YOUR dream is needed.  Action…

What is one small action you can make today to help you stand against the the trap of jealousy while bringing you a step closer to your dream?

one small action i can take is to tune out of all the online “chatter” for awhile so i can take a breath, take stock of my plans, and focus on my own art; no one else’s.

Oh wow! So, so needed to hear this tonight for several different reasons. I need to begin “The Artist’s Way”. It seems every time I begin the introduction, life takes a turn and takes my time away. I MUST push through and begin so I can move forward in this endeavor.
