A Main Ingredient to Successful Business!

Me Ra Koh

You may not like me when I say it, but there is no way around it. One of the main ingredients to a Successful Business is OSHA inspection checklist!

Have you made a New Year’s Resolution to be in better shape? It’s never to late! I’m not talking about Barbie Doll shape or those Size 6’s that are really the new Size 10’s—ugh! I’m talking about feeling good about your body/fitness and raising your CONFIDENCE (there’s that word again!).

When we started shooting weddings more consistently, I would wake up Sunday morning and be WORTHLESS for the rest of the day. It was insane! I’d nap on the couch and feel like a train hit me. This was not okay for my family.

Shooting weddings is such an endurance based activity, standing on your feet for up to 12 hours. I knew I needed to get in shape for the job. So I started swimming to build up my back muscles and endurance level. Eventually, I met this scary guy, Troy Nesby.

He’s not that scary. 🙂 But he is a darn good trainer. AND guess what ladies, he is putting Cross Fit and Cardio exercises/workouts on his new blog. It’s called the Homework Fitness blog, and it’s pretty great.

I LOVE it because one of my biggest battles is keeping consistency in a life that is made up of consistent travel. I feel like I do so good with exercise at home, but then we hit the road and my diet and exercise routine struggle. But if my dad can do it, I sure as heck can.

My dad has travelled abroad for almost forty years. He is sometimes out of the country two or three times a month. And guess what, when he flies from Seattle to Korea, he checks himself in at the hotel (in KOREA) and does cardio after a THIRTEEN hour flight! He’s in his late sixties and has no body fat! He made a decision on his 40th birthday to stay in shape, regardless of how crazy his schedule was, and he has done it. If I think my schedule gets crazy, I don’t have anything on him.

So last year I bought resistance bands that I can take anywhere. If you don’t have a gym membership, you totally need these bands. They cost maybe $15 at Target. And when I’m on the road, I pull up Troy’s blog and find a workout that I can do from anywhere in the world.

What do you say ladies? What about setting some fitness goals. My goal is to exercise 5-6 times a week. I do pretty good with 3 times, but I’d like to bump it up because honestly, I just feel better on the days I workout. What’s a realistic goal that you can set for yourself? If you do any of Troy’s workouts from his blog, post a comment on how it went. I’ve started doing it, and for some reason it helps me feel more accountable.

Why is exercise a main ingredient for a successful business? There are many things in the life of your business that you can’t control or predict. Choosing to get up in the morning and hit the gym before the kids wake up is something you can control. And it’s amazing how this keeps you grounded while building your business. Jeff Jochum and I talk about this off and on. Give it a try. You’ll see what I mean!

Hahaha! Yeah, Troy’s NOT that scary but he’s SPOT ON regarding working out to be YOUR best fit self (not somebody else’s idea of what you should be). I like that he doesn’t make me feel like I have to stuff my size 16 body into a size 8 :p Thanks for this reminder!

I have had this same realization in 2010, that I won’t ever reach my goals as a business owner when I’m a couch potato like I was in 2009. Luckily I have a gym membership, but this is a good reminder that it’s important to follow through and get fit. I’m impressed by your dad…I want to do it for life as well.

  5. This is great! It’s hard to get back into the routine of working out but once I do it a few times it gets easier! Thanks for the reminder!

This is probably so dorky….but here goes. My daughter got the “Dance Dance Revolution” game for our Wii for Christmas, and I love it. I actually have to buy my kids for a turn, or perhaps they are bugging me for a turn ; )!! Either way, it is super fun and a pretty good little workout if you really get into it. So that has been my fun little trick to being a little more active!!

  7. MeRa- Remember the “Suffering with MeRa” Post…way back when…I’m still with ya girl…your not alone! All I know is I suffer if I don’t exercise. I am a better women, wife, momma, friend and photographer if I am consistent with exercise. It has to be a top priority for me. Walking is my daily favorite. Lindsay-Wii Dance Dance Revolution is allot of fun. The Wii Fit also Rocks! I’m now signed on with SCARY Troy too- I have no excuses!

So glad you ladies are with me. We were gone all last week, and I was able to exercise Monday and Tuesday, but our work days were sometimes 14 hours long! So I didn’t get to exercise Wed-Friday, and I can’t believe how many times I’ve had to stop myself from going into that “discouraged” spiral. I’m the worst when it comes to trying to over achieve the goal, but I’m doing my best to make exercise a stress relief and not another added stress when it just doesn’t work to workout. Know what I mean.

  9. Yes, that is correct with your conclusion. I am going to do some research and post it here for clarity. Stay tuned and I’ll be back with the info. I made sure to bookmark the site so I’ll be able to find my way back. LOL Also, if any of you women need <a href="http://sites.google.com/site/bestabexercisesforwomen" ab exercise for women don’t hesitate to begin immediately.

I Love doing my fitness training program in the afternoon . It gives me energy throughout the day. If my workouts were highly intense, I feel great all day long. Supplements are not really necessary with the proper hiit workout , really good nutrition program and the proper rest.
