The Depth of Love: Suehyun and Mike (a sneak peak)

Me Ra Koh

The blog is a little late going live today b/c we had the Fed Ex man surprise us! The new Sony 330 Copper Brown camera arrived! Combine the Copper Brown camera with the pink interface, and you’ve got an unofficial Me Ra Koh camera that I am FREAKING out about! To hold it…to actually hold it…oh my goodness, we have been doing a celebration dance over here! Pictures to come! I can’t wait for all our moms to get their hands on this this holiday season! You are going to LOVE it!

But before this happened, I was working on a special post. I wanted to share a little sneak peak of Suehyun and Mike’s wedding from Maui. We’ve been working through the images, and this particular image touched me on such a deep level. Look at Mike’s face. His whole world is right there in his arms. And the passion and intensity of this makes Suehyun glow.

Suehyun & Mike's Wedding Images from Maui

This image made me reflect on how we give such different gifts to our spouses. But sometimes it’s hard to articulate what those things are, yet somehow we are opposites making a whole. Mike is a gentle man with total adoration for his bride. Suehyun is a firecracker that can make anyone laugh. She is full of joy and intensity. It was amazing to have the honor of capturing these two different dynamics. I can’t imagine a better whole.

Out of curiosity, what is a gift that your spouse gives you? Something that might be the opposite of your personality, but gives you a sense of wholeness?

For us, Brian definitely brings a sense of calm to the house. Yes, he is ADD and high energy along with me, but he’s also really mellow about a lot in life. I notice that when he’s gone, I don’t feel as calm inside…as settled. Off the top of my head, that’s what I would say.

What would you say off the top of your head?

p.s. Suehyun and Mike, I hope you can get Internet access while in Africa to see this. You two were meant for each other, if you ever needed visual proof. (So much more to come!)

great shot….and super cool about the camera!

  3. Off the top of my head…My husband grounds me. I am the high energy, Type A personality, that stresses about everything. He is the opposite (at least on the outside). He bring me back to neutral when I am stuck in high gear. He can do it with a look, he can do it by laughing at me (doesnt always go over well), and he can do it by touch.
When he asked for my hand in marriage, my mother looked at him and said, “Aaron, you are the only one who could handle her.” LOL Thanks mom. But boy was she ever right. AND the stresser that I am…I was never more calm than I was on my wedding day. All my friends were in shock that i was just at peace. He is my best friend, the one who calms me down and makes me feel whole.
He is the greatest guy and everyone who meets him just loves to be around him.

I guess that is what i would say off the top of my head. 🙂

Brent is my rock. He has always encouraged & supported me 110%, since we were 17-years-old, to pursue my photography passion and passion about anything else in life, like homebirthing, buying a house (or two), running a home business, everything. His solid nature lets me feel lifted & closer to my dreams. Business is going the best it ever has been, and the whole package keeps me a happy mom to happy kids. With him I’m centered.

  5. Rebecca says:

I would have to say that my husband is my safe place… I can go to him with all of my fears, worries, concerns, mistakes, everything and he just loves me through it. I’m so, SO thankful for him.

  6. Pamela says:

oh my word! that image is breathtaking. i can see entirely what you mean in your description of the couple. wow.

my husband is the metronome. his constancy makes the rhythm in our household. our friends have also said that he is the text and i am the illustration. we make such a balance (you do forget this until you are apart), that when apart we must remind each other to take care of ourselves (i think we forget, but do it naturally together).

  7. Jennifer says:

Katie, you took the words right out of my mouth!! Type A would probably be an understatement for me…OCD is definitely right up there in the mix. Jack Nickolson said it best, and it couldn’t be more true in my case, that my husband makes me want to be a better person. No offense to my Mom in any way, but when I was younger and something went wrong I immediately called my Mom. Ever since falling in love with my best friend, I have clawed my way to the phone in order to share with him my woes. He listens quietly and then provides me with a centered and calm perspective that works like magic. The Yin and the Yang of this wonderful image is mesmerizing. I could stare at it for hours wondering what they are thinking in that exact moment. Breathtaking!

  8. Gerald says:

This image is stunning! Easily one of my all time favorites from you guys! The moment is just so real and their expressions speak volumes. I keep coming back to look at it over and over…

  9. Kari says:

I love the dirty black socks that wind up in my BED, next to my PILLOW!

O.K. Seriously. Dave never gets upset…ever… even when I am acting like a 5 year old, he just shrugs it off. Even when we are facing crazy relatives that may require a call to the police, he is calm. He reminds me that maybe the best reaction is not the crazy-emotional-typeA-hysterionic version that I tend to go to.

AND, he loves the kid in a different way than i do that they are rounded out by what he gives them — and that is such a gift to a mom.

  10. Amy says:

Off the top of my head, I’m not me without him. Currently going through a rough time in our lives with my husband’s brain cancer, so this topic hit a chord inside me. Lovely picture of this beautiful couple!

  11. Rhonda says:

Love this post. There are so many ways in which my husband completes me. We work so much better as a team too! He is more right-brained and I am more left-brained. He is visionary and I am able to bring his vision to fruition. He has the gift of administration and I can’t tell you how much that is a gift not only to me, but to the running of our household. When we don’t have his lists to double check, we ALWAYS leave something behind or undone. He has patience that could only be a gift from God. He brings peace to my chaos! I could go on and on.
God knew what He was doing when he put us together.

    And LOVE the picture!!!

  12. Me Ra Koh says:

So glad you guys liked this image. Thanks for all the kind words! It’s one of my favorites from the summer. And loved all the things you shared about your spouses. So cool!
